Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Back Online

After almost a 6 hour outage yesterday, Facebook's founder Mark Zuckerberg, has apologized for the "disruption." An internal technical issue took Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram and Oculus offline at around 12pm EST on Monday, October 4th. The downtime impacted more than 3.5 billion users worldwide. Almost at the same exact time Facebook's Antigone Davis was live on CNBC defending the company over a whistleblower's accusations and its handling of research information, which suggests Instagram is harmful to teens, the entire network went offline. It was the worst outage for Facebook since a 2019 incident took its site offline for more than 24 hours. The outage hits small businesses and creators the hardest, who rely on the social media platforms for their income.The explanation for the outage was a 'configuration issue' with the ISP DNS servers. They do not believe any user's data was impacted.For nearly 6 hours, potentially billions of people found themselves without the social media tools they rely upon to keep in touch with family and friends. In addition, businesses around the entire world, which use social media to connect with customers, were faced with the prospect of an unexpected financial hit. The social media giant's stock also took a tumble.
